Excused Absence and Move Your Tale have been producing and performing original live comedy in Austin and beyond since 2007. Whether you are a family with young children searching for theatrical entertainment, a high school student searching for opportunities to see quality live comedy (that’s not in a bar) or an organization organizing an all ages event, we’ve got you covered!
The Family Series
Live interactive Improv shows performed by some of Austin’s most-loved Improvisers. Akin to traditional Children’s Theatre, these shows invite kids and their adults to experience live theater in an immersive, joyful way. (We promise it’s funny for adults too)
Excused Absence Nights
ExAb Nights began in 2012 as a weekly show that allows teens to see the adult acts that usually play too late on a school night. Eventually, these weekly shows became an opportunity for youth acts to showcase their own work as well. Like so many regularly scheduled comedy shows, ExAb Nights scaled back during the pandemic. This Fall, we bring it back as a monthly show. We hope to return to weekly shows in Spring ’23.
Showcases
A supportive, low pressure opportunity for students to share their work at the end of each class or camp session. Though we don’t publicize them beyond the families involved, they are open to the public. If you are lucky enough to be invited, go! This is where some of the most unexpected and hilarious things happen.
Touring Shows
Touring Shows Improv is low maintenance, flexible live theater, easily taught and performed at libraries, schools, conference rooms and homes.
